It’s been a winter of crazy weather across the US and we’re all very excited that spring is officially only a few days away. The mountains of snow are rapidly melting, the winds will calm down soon, days are getting longer, and the sun is getting stronger. Staring out the window at your yard and back porch makes you long for the summer and there are a few things you can do to prepare your retractable awning for the coming season. Eclipse Shading Systems® outdoor retractable awnings don’t need a lot of care, but the care you give them is important. After all, you are protecting your investment in your home and making sure you have the comfort of expanded outdoor living space is important to you and your family.
After you clear your deck and patio of winter debris, take the time to do the same with your retractable awnings. Carefully roll out the fabric and look it over for dirt, leaves, and any other items left behind by nature. Then give the awning fabric a thorough once over for stains. Begin the clean up with a simple spray from an outdoor garden hose to loosen the dirt. If you see the beginning of stains, use warm water, mild soap, and a soft cloth to gently rub the soiled areas of the awning. Spray the fabric off and let it dry completely. Hose off the awning hardware and using a soft cloth, wipe it clean making sure there are no signs of rust. If you hear any creaky noises, a gentle lubricant should clear up the problem, but make sure not to get any on the fabric of the awning. Before you know it, you’ll be ready for summer and all the advantages a retractable Eclipse awning offers…protection from damaging UV rays, lower cooling costs, and a shady backyard retreat for you and your family.
