Preparing Your Retractable Awnings for a New Season

It’s never too early to think about preparing your Eclipse Shading Systems® outdoor retractable awnings and solar screens for summer. Protect your investment in your awning by caring for your outdoor living space as well as you do your indoor space.

As you prepare your patio or deck for a new season of outdoor living, make cleaning your awning a top priority. Roll out the fabric and examine it carefully. Over the course of the winter months, it’s likely that dirt, debris, and rain have caused some staining. A gentle spray from the garden hose will freshen up the fabric. If additional cleaning is needed, use a mild soap and warm water with a non-abrasive cloth. Once your retractable awning is completely clean, let it air out and dry completely. Clear away loose debris in the surrounding deck and yard areas to make sure it doesn’t end up on your clean retractable awning. Next, check the awning hardware and hose it off, wiping it clean with a soft cloth. Look closely for any signs of rust. If you hear any creaking sounds when the joints move, try using a gentle lubricant and if the problem persists, call your Eclipse dealer. Make sure to keep any lubricant away from the fabric to prevent staining.

Take care of your Eclipse retractable awning and it will take care of you, protecting you and your family from damaging UV rays, lowering cooling costs by reducing heat gain indoors, and by creating a shady and comfortable living and entertaining space for the lazy days of summer.
